We are thrilled to be working in partnership with National Employer Training to deliver a Skills Bootcamp in Youth Work, starting in October 2024.

With significant investment in youth work and infrastructure, such as Labour’s Young Futures Hubs programme and the Youth Investment Fund initiatives in areas like Grimsby and Cleethorpes, there is a pressing need to train the next generation of youth workers at Level 3.

These investments aim to address complex, interconnected issues such as crime, mental health, and employability among young people, challenges that can only be effectively tackled with well-trained professionals.

How do youth workers help young people in the community?

Level 3 training provides youth workers with the specialised knowledge and skills essential for addressing the range of issues that young people face today. These skills enable them to engage in crime prevention, provide mental health support, and offer career guidance. For example, the Young Futures Hubs aim to intervene early in the lives of at-risk youth, helping them avoid involvement in criminal activity. Youth workers must understand the various social, psychological, and environmental factors that lead to such behaviours and know how to implement effective preventive strategies.

The role of youth workers extends beyond addressing immediate problems; they are also tasked with providing holistic support. These professionals need to offer services that cover everything from mental health care to employability advice, all within integrated hubs that act as community anchors. Training at Level 3 equips youth workers to offer this comprehensive support, ensuring they can meet the diverse needs of young people from various backgrounds.

Is there a high demand for youth workers in the UK?

As the scale of investment in youth-focused projects grows, so does the demand for qualified youth workers. With £95 million earmarked for the Young Futures Hubs and significant funding flowing through the Government's Youth Investment Fund, it is crucial to create a pipeline of skilled professionals. Level 3 training is key to ensuring that enough well-prepared youth workers are available to maximise the impact of these programmes.

Is level 3 training essential to youth workers?

For youth services to be sustainable, the next generation of youth workers must be equipped to adapt to evolving challenges. Level 3 training not only provides the necessary skills for a successful start in the profession, but also lays a strong foundation for continued professional development, ensuring a resilient and adaptable workforce.

If you’re interested in meeting the challenges posed by crime, mental health, and employability as a youth worker, or you want to help ensure that youth workers are well-prepared to deliver long-term positive outcomes for young people and their communities, we’d love to hear from you.
