YMCA Humber and North East Lincolnshire Council are delighted to announce the official opening of Clee Fields, taking place on Saturday 31st August.

Clee Fields on Ladysmith Road, Grimsby, will officially be opened by the Mayor of the Borough of North East Lincolnshire at 11am, and the local community are invited to attend this event. The event will take place from 10.30am – 1pm, and during this time there will be exhibition games, the opportunity to get involved in games and competitions on the pitch, and food and drink will be available.

In May, YMCA Humber announced they are working in partnership with the council after successfully winning a tender to manage the Clee Fields sports facility, based on Ladysmith Road, under a five-year contract.

The project has been funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government’s Football Foundation, along with money from the council’s capital projects budget.

The development of Clee Fields is part of the council’s commitment under the Playing Pitch Strategy which pledges to give all residents the opportunity to access sports pitches and facilities to support being active.

Cllr Hayden Dawkins, Cabinet member for Culture at North East Lincolnshire Council said, “Clee Fields has been created not only for current demand but also for the demand we expect to see in the future, and we’re looking forward to seeing growth in the use of the facilities by local sports groups and clubs, and community groups.

“It’s great to have YMCA on board to run this for the community, and I hope this will become a really popular local asset. I can’t wait to see the facilities being used and appreciated.”

Robert Sullivan, CEO at Football Foundation said, “the Football Foundation is working closely with our partners – the Premier League, The FA and Government – to transform the quality of grassroots facilities in England by delivering projects like this across the country.

“Good quality playing facilities have a transformative impact on physical and mental health and play an important role in bringing people together and strengthening local communities.

“We’re delighted that the local community will now be able to enjoy all these benefits thanks to the new facilities at Clee Fields.”

In July, YMCA Humber opened Clee Fields to partner and community clubs and are looking forward to working with organisations, local football teams and clubs, providing a first-class football facility.

One of the partner clubs, Cleethorpes Town Juniors Football Club said, “[Clee Fields] is a brilliant facility and we’re proud to be one of the partner clubs offering grassroots football in the local community.”

Louise Harling, Head of Youth and Community Services at YMCA Humber said, “we are so excited to be operating Clee Fields. It's a fantastic community asset that will service the needs of local clubs brilliantly. We look forward to developing further opportunities to engage with the wider community and increase access to physical activity on site in the future.”
