A new era for Kent Street’s Multi-Use Games Area

YMCA Humber is thrilled to announce the next phase of a major transformation at Kent Street’s Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) - a project that will provide young people and families in East Marsh with the high-quality sports and community facilities they deserve.

Following the success of our free youth club and skate park refurbishment, we are now turning our attention to upgrading the playing pitches and expanding the youth club building to create a more inclusive and welcoming space for all.

This project is built on community feedback and real needs - ensuring that the space is safe, accessible, and filled with opportunities for young people to stay active, build friendships, and develop new skills.

What’s changing?

  • Two brand-new 2G pitches
  • High-quality playing surfaces
  • New fencing, floodlights, and gated access
  • Expanded sports opportunities including football, netball, hockey, and futsal

A brand-new youth club extension

  • A multi-use space for workshops, mentoring, and community events
  • Improved accessibility
  • Modern heating, lighting, and electrics to create a welcoming environment

Refurbishment of the open-use tarmac MUGA

  • This phase is still being finalised, with more details to be announced later in the year

Why it’s important

Kent Street’s facilities have always been a lifeline for young people, but over time, the pitches have become worn and outdated.

With this transformation, we are not just fixing up a sports facility - we are creating a space where young people can belong, contribute and thrive. This means:

  • More sports and activities: New facilities will allow for more teams, training sessions, and inclusive sports
  • A safe social space: A bigger youth club means more room for activities, workshops, and support services
  • Better accessibility: Improved facilities will ensure everyone, regardless of ability, can get involved
  • Brighter, safer spaces: With new lighting and security features, we are making Kent Street safer for all

“By upgrading these spaces, we’re not just installing pitches - we’re building a future where sport, friendship, and opportunity thrive in the East Marsh, an area lacking in sports facilities.” - Rob Baty, Head of Operations, YMCA Humber
